Free Rides From Uber And Lyft For Ida Victims

Residents across New Jersey are still wrapping their heads around the damage done by Tropical storm Ida, and if there's a resource to help you though this tough time I want you to know about it. Uber and Lyft are partnering with our state to get you where you are going at no charge.

If you lost your car in the floodwaters from this horrific storm, New Jersey will pay for your ride if you need it, or at the very least they will discount your Uber or Lyft ride.

Governor Phil Murphy made the announcement yesterday that New Jersey is teaming up with rideshare companies along with the United Way Worldwide and NJ 211 to provide free or discounted rides to residents who lost their car to Ida.

Yesterday Gov Murphy said,

"In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Ida, we must come together as a community and pick one another up," said Governor Murphy. "I want to thank both Uber and Lyft for their generous offer of transportation for New Jerseyans in need."

They will offer this for the next two weeks. Residents who lost a car and need help accessing essential services can text NJIDARIDE to 898-211 to request a Lyft or Uber ride. If you don't have a smartphone you can dial 2-1-1 from any phone line.

Tropical Storm Ida left thousands of residents without basic needs such as housing and transportation. In Bergen County alone, areas like Paramus along Route 17 had over 200 abandoned cars. Thanks to The Patch for the original story.
