There are a lot of things that New Jersey is known for, but two of them stick out in the minds of a major publication.

If you were to describe New Jersey in two words, which ones would you use? Some of them seem pretty obvious.

You might choose to use beaches and boardwalks. Those would be two excellent words to describe the Garden State.

Or, what about Parkway and Turnpike? With all the cars on the road, people in a hurry, and the traffic we have, those words make perfect sense.

Maybe you'd choose pizza and diners. We love our diner food and we have the best pizza on the planet.

But none of these were words Reader's Digest used to describe New Jersey. The two words they say are all you need to know about the Garden State are horses and divorces.

As odd as that sounds, and as much as you might want to disagree, it turns out those two words are words we should be very proud of here in New Jersey.

You see, it turns out that we have more horses per square mile than any state in the nation. Depending on where you live in the Garden State, that may come as a surprise to you.

Did you know that New Jersey has one of the lowest divorce rates in the entire nation? It turns out it's true, at least according to World Population Review.

Their data for 2024 puts our divorce rate at 2.2%, lower than all but 8 other states. Vermont's 1% is the lowest in America.

So it looks like we should be proud of our horses and divorces in New Jersey.
