My first question is, are they talking about our equipment and roads, or are they talking about our voices?
To find out, we need to find out how the folks at Newsweek define noise. We hope it's roads and not our big mouths.
Here are some of the categories that were considered when ranking the noisiest state in America. They included commuter traffic, construction, nightlife, construction permits, and other categories.
New Jersey Tops The Noisiest State List
Add to that the airport noise in the Garden State, and we didn't stand a chance. We went right to the top of the noise list.

The northeast is the noisiest section of the country, with Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania all landing in the top 5.
The one state we thought for sure would make the top 5, but didn't was New York, which wasn't even in the top 10.
The Quietest States In America
So, which states were named the quietest states in America? We don't want to say it too loudly, but the quietest states are Montana, Minnesota, and Alaska.
