The Life-Stopping Reason I’ve Been Forced To Lay So Low The Past Month
Hello everyone.
I am not sure if you have noticed but I have been laying very low in comparison to 94.3 The Point's previous Summer seasons.
Listen to Nicole Murray middays on 94.3 The Point and download our free 94.3 The Point app.
I called a friend earlier today in tears frustrated over my situation and she suggested to share it with you all because I am far from the first to go through this and I will definitely not be the last.
Now usually, I am out about, jumping around, hosting events and on the red carpet....that all came to a screeching halt about a month ago.
It's taken me a bit to be ready to open up but it's time.
About a month ago, I had emergency back surgery. Ya....fun stuff.
I have not felt like myself for about a month and a half because whatever went wrong happened on Father's Day.
I had a herniated disc that was bulging out of my spine to the point that I couldn't walk, I couldn't sit, I couldn't exist without being in excruciating pain. It has been beyond exhausting.
July 7th is when I went under the knife and I was so not prepared for what was ahead.
After the surgery, my doctor actually told me the situation was worse than we had originally thought and the disc was 1/3 herniated and the entire area was a mess.
The first two weeks, sleep did not exist.
The pain had me in tears and reliant on pain medicine to cope. The world could have literally been on fire and I would not have been aware because the pain was all-consuming.
I tried to push myself back to work too soon because I had such FOMO on the Summer stuff I was missing out on.
My midday show was finally given the green light to broadcast out on the New Jersey Natural Gas Asbury Park Boardwalk Studio on Fridays, I was asked to be the host of the Miller Lite Grotto Beach Party Series at Bar Anticipation In Lake Como all Summer long and there were other opportunities popping up in-between.
It is an uncomfortable feeling for me to have to rely on others to do the job that I was assigned to do. Not to mention, I took pride in being able to do it all.
*Thank you very much to all who have to helped to cover me while I am recovering
Long story short, I put myself in the ER and missed another week of work.
After two weeks, I started working half days from home and even that has been a struggle to accomplish.
Now don't get me wrong, from July 7th to now, there has been a massive improvement but I am still in pain and I am still extremely limited.
I. Am. Exhausted.
I've also cried every time I have called my boss to say, "the full return can't be this week."
I've found this just as mentally challenging as it has been physical.
Like...I can't even walk up to the beach right now. I KNOW!
But here is what I have promised myself and now I am promising you: I will be back.
When I am back on my feet, I will be back in studio annoying Lou & Shannon like I am supposed to be. I will be hosting events...as many as I can. I will be going live on Facebook and just getting back into the groove of connecting with you all as much as possible.
So yes...I am in the middle of one of the biggest set backs of my life and I am feeling down and off to the side.
But if you have gone through the same, you will know that this is not forever.
I miss you all.
Until then...XOXO and live it up for me out there.
Nicole S. Murray.
