The Day There Was Over 11 Inches Of Rain In One New Jersey Town
We are seeing some big rain numbers in our recent forecasts, but there was one day not too long ago when one New Jersey town registered over 11 inches of rain.
We thought it would be interesting to dig deep in the weather record books to find the day in our area that had the most rain, and we didn't have to look too far.
Record Rainfalls In New Jersey
We'll start with the record rainfall for an August day in the town of Freehold, where the Office of The New Jersey State Climatologist lists the data from the weather station there.
The biggest rainfall total in that town for an August day was a whopping 8.23 inches on August 28, 2011.

More New Jersey Towns And Record Rain
The record one-day August rainfall at the Newark Liberty International Airport weather station was 6.4 inches on August 15, 2011.
The southern tip of the state, Cape May once registered 8.15 inches of rain on August 14, 1953.
But the most shocking to us was the 11.1 inches of rain recorded at the Atlantic City International Airport's weather station on August 20, 1997.
Just to put that in some type of perspective, experts say that 11.1 inches of rain is equal to about 8 and a half feet of snow. Thank goodness it happened in August.
