New Jersey Has Produced Some Great Athletes

They created a point system that awarded a state if the athlete was born there, went to high school there, or if they went to college there.

When it comes to team sports, New Jersey didn't rank as high as you might have thought or hoped for.

We got credit for 5 of the best athletes in a team sport who were born in New Jersey, three who went to high school here, and one who attended college in the Garden State.

New Jersey Might Not Rank As High As You Think

That gave us a total of 9 points, only good enough to earn us a rank of 20th in America, and that's a little disappointing.

Our strongest sport is baseball, where we rank as the #13 state in the nation, and two players with New Jersey connections, Mike Trout and Derek Jeter Made the list of the best players of all time.

We did not come close to the top of the NBA list, but we do rank #20 on the list for NBA players with Shaquille O'Neal and Rik Barry leading the way for us.

We also rank pretty high in the NHL category, with Johnny Gaudreau leading the way to a #10 ranking.
