Oftentimes, these tourists have some questions for us. After all, we live here, and they don't. If you're like me, you'll want to help as much as possible, to a point.

If a tourist needs directions, by all means help them get where they're going, but there are things true New Jersey residents will never tell a tourist.

The New Jersey Summer Secrecy Code

There is something called the New Jersey Secrecy Code. It's been around for about a minute since I just thought of it, but the concept has been around for decades.

If you have experienced a Jersey Shore summer as a resident, you know it comes with big, built-in challenges like traffic, crowds, and other inconveniences.

That's why there are things you should never tell a tourist during the summer months. If you do, you are betraying your fellow New Jerseyans.

The Three Secrets New Jersey Residents Never Tell Tourists

Here they are, in no apparent order. Keep them handy for summer usage:

#3 Never tell a tourist where they can find parking near the beach. That spot could be used by a local who deserves to enjoy our beaches in the summer.

#2 Never tell a tourist about a quiet secret beach. If you do, they won't be quiet or secret for long.

#1 Never tell a tourist about a secret shortcut that bypasses summer traffic at the Jersey Shore. Let's keep that to ourselves.

We are asking New Jersey residents, including me, to do the impossible, but we need to keep our mouths shut on these three topics. Trust me, it'll be worth it.
