Boardwalk Do’s & Don’ts – This Week’s New Jersey Pet Peeve
Now that summer is upon us in New Jersey, I need to switch my "pet peeve" attention to the beaches and the boardwalks.
NJ Pet Peeve Of The Week - Boardwalk Etiquette
Today, I am going to focus specifically on the boardwalks in the Garden State. The boardwalk is often the summer place where joy and misery collide, especially for those who don't heed my advice.
We all want to go to the boardwalk to have a great time, and navigating a crowded one in the summer is no easy task, so I only intend to spotlight the egregious boardwalk etiquette busters here.
Some things can't be avoided, like large strollers, big families, and intense crowds, but here are some of the smaller things we can do to make this a better boardwalk summer.
The 3 Boardwalk Pet Peeves That Drive Me Crazy
Here's my list of the things that should not be allowed on the boardwalk, and it goes for locals and tourists alike.
The Stopper - It's ok to walk slower than the rest of the crowd, and it's ok to window shop along the way, but you should never come to a full stop on the main part of the boardwalk that has an obvious flow going. Text your friend later.
The Swayer - Please try to keep your movements in some form of a straight line. People moving faster behind you are attempting to predict where the open space is going to be, and your swaying is throwing them off.
The Mind Changer - If you're heading north, it is not ok to stop, turn around, and go south. You wouldn't do that on the Parkway, and you can't do that on the boardwalk. Make your way to the left in increments until you can safely turn around to join traffic heading the other way.
Follow Boardwalk Etiquette
These suggestions did not come from a think tank or a government study, and they aren't ticketable offenses (at least as far as I know), but they do make sense, don't they?

These are my boardwalk etiquette rules, and if you don't follow them, and I happen to be on the boardwalk behind you, I will 100% be judging you.
