Summer Means Poison Ivy Risks Especially In July

It's always a good idea to be aware.

The worst months for poison ivy in New Jersey are May through August, with July typically being peak season. It's important to be on the lookout when walking, hiking a trail, or working in the yard.

It's the oil in the plants that causes the rash, so here's what you can do to protect yourself. The American Academy of Dermatology Association has recommendations for keeping your skin safe this summer.

Protect Yourself From Poison Ivy During Summer Activities

Cover up with clothing.

- Apply an ivy blocker to your skin.
