This week, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2021 nominees, those artists who will be considered for induction. But this year's list is missing someone AGAIN, and I'm not happy about it.

Dear Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,

I recently reviewed your list of artists who will go on the ballot this year for potential induction into the Hall of Fame. It's a diverse collection of extremely talented individuals and groups. Foo Fighters and Jay-Z, the first time on the ballot for both. There's also Mary J. Blige, Carole King (how is she not already in as a musician), Chaka Khan, Kate Bush, Tina Turner, and The (badass) Go-Go's.

But, with all due respect to your institution, you got it wrong...again.

WHERE IS MARIAH CAREY?

I'm calling BS here. Criteria for induction is that it must be 25 years since the debut single release of an artist. Which means Mariah has been eligible now for almost six years. Why has she not even been considered yet? If it's a numbers game to you, I can give you at least 19 reasons why she should at least be on the ballot.

19 No. 1 singles. 18 of which she wrote, including what has become the most-streamed original Christmas song of all time, the beloved 'All I Want for Christmas Is You'. Four #1's just off her debut album alone. That was in 1990, my friends. How about a universal anthem? Introducing a piece of evidence titled, 'Hero'.

So, you want artists who are groundbreaking, and whose influence paved the way for those that followed. Hi Christina Aguilera. Hi Ariana Grande. Hi Adele.

What about the fact that she was pretty much the first pop star to fully embrace hip-hop artists and rappers and bring those kind of collaborations to the mainstream?

Okay, Whitney Houston is in. I get it. Maybe SHE influenced Mariah. However, Whitney was part of a machine that wrote all her songs FOR HER. That is not the case with Mariah Carey. That's why you always hear her in interviews reminding people of that very fact. She doesn't get enough credit!

Yes, Mariah's been welcomed into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. She's broken records by The Beatles and Elvis Presley. BOTH are in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. But she's not worthy yet?

I've been to your beautiful museum in Cleveland, Ohio. I want to see a Mariah installation. You gotta make this right somewhere down the line, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Good luck to the Class of 2021. Foos and Jay-Z are probably a shoe-in on their first try, while Mimi sits sipping on her bubbly for the phone to ring.

#JusticeforMariah. #PutMariahCareyintheHallofFame.

Best,

Heather DeLuca
