Police investigating double fatal motor vehicle crash in Berkeley

Berkeley Township Police and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office are investigating a double fatal motor vehicle crash that shut down a portion of Route 9 Monday afternoon after 2:30 pm near Sylvan Lakes Boulevard.

An on-scene investigation by the OCPO Vehicular Homicide Unit and BTPD learned that Jeffrey Martin, 41, of Bayville was heading southbound on Route 9 when his vehicle crossed the centerline of traffic and struck Frank Brooks, 31, of Beachwood, who was riding his bicycle at the time on the shoulder of the road.

Both Martin and Brooks were pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the OCPO Vehicular Homicide Unit, Berkeley Police, Toms River Police and the Ocean County Sheriff's Office CSI Unit.
