When you love a place as much as I love the Jersey Shore, it's amazing to see things from a new angle.

This weekend Diane and I got up early on Mother's Day morning to take the boat out for a little ride. We, like so many at the Jersey Shore, were waiting for a warm day that coincided with a little free time. That finally happened yesterday morning.

I'm a first time boat owner, so it's all new to me. So when we went out, I had a wonderful chance to soak in the Jersey Shore from a different vantage point, and I came away with one overwhelming feeling. We are so lucky to live here.

A short boat trip brings a lot of emotions, from the simple beauty of where we live to the heartbreak of Sandy damage to the hopefulness of rebuilding. And all along the way, you can sense that that the Jersey spirit is alive and well.

The next time I'm stuck in traffic or paying a bill that I think is too high I'm going to try to remember that beautiful view of the Jersey Shore we love. Will it work? That depends on how bad the traffic is or how big the bill is I guess.
