The Most Popular Baby Names

The latest list is out. See if your child's name is on it!

Some people enjoy seeing their son or daughter's name at the top of the most popular names list...others go out of their way to name their kid something unique that would never make the top ten.

Here are the top ten boy and top ten girl names:

GIRLS:

And the most popular name for girls: SOPHIA

And the most popular name for boys: JACKSON

This is actually one of several lists of baby names that comes out each year. This one is from BabyCenter. There is also one from the Social Security Administration that may be a bit different, although Sophia is the top girls name on both lists, while Noah was the most popular name for boys on the government's list.

Interestingly, BabyCenter says that names from various TV shows have influenced what parents are naming their babies, including names from characters on "House of Cards,"  "Orange is the New Black," "How to get Away With Murder," "Scandal" and "Grey's Anatomy".
