I just went for a hike with my husband Tony which took a bit of convincing. I've shared this with you before, but I'm on the fence about too much nature. Tony really wanted to go so I decided that he was the only person in my world that I would risk getting a tick for. Before going, I googled some homemade tick repellent recipes like a good girl scout and I thought I would share.

These are great mixes if you want a natural repellant this summer.  There are a few options, for the first one, just mix 9 drops citronella essential oil, 6 drops Tea Tree essential oil, 6 drops Peppermint essential oils, 1 tablespoon almond oil or jojoba oil and rub into your skin. You'll smell like a dream and keep the ticks far away. I like this one for the kids.

Here is another option...Combine 4 ounces of purified or distilled water to a small spray bottle along with 20 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Shake before using and spray on skin, pant cuffs, and shoes. I looked it up and this one is safe for dogs too! Just make sure that you dilute the eucalyptus oil before spraying on your fur baby.

Here is another combo that ticks hate...in fact, they dislike it so much you can not only use it to repel ticks, it will also help remove them if they attach themselves to you. Add several drops to the palm of your hand and rub on exposed skin. It can also be diluted and mixed with almond oil. When diluted, it’s safe for dogs but I'm stressing the dilution part of this mixture.  If one is attached just apply a drop or two of neem oil directly and it will release almost right away.

Also, is it me or is apple cider vinegar good for everything in our lives?  It comes to the rescue once again...just mix up this solution and spray on clothing and skin you can even spray on objects.  Combine the following in a spray bottle:  2 cups of water 4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons of organic neem oil and you are good to go!

We all know that Lyme disease is a terrible disease and it's important to protect ourselves so now you have a natural set of options that you can mix up and feel good about using.  Looks like I'll be going on more hikes!
