It is time to play ball!

The most heartwarming, feel-good story of the week at the Jersey Shore was the announcement and countdown to the Grand Opening of the RWJ-Barnabas Health Toms River Field of Dreams on Oak Avenue in Toms River.

It went from a dream to a vision for Christian Kane of Toms River who wanted a field where his now 11-year-old son Gavin could go out and play ball with and like all the other kids.

Furthermore, he wanted a place where special needs kids and families could go and play, dream, laugh, and be themselves without any fear of being stared at and looked upon differently.

There have been some challenges, many financial, along the way but Kane has persevered as he has throughout this process.

The Grand Opening of the RWJ-Barnabas Health Toms River Field of Dreams taking place on Saturday is only the beginning.

Soon enough, we'll see games being played, catch between fathers and sons, and just families and communities coming together to enjoy something so pure as the game of baseball and much more.

This is the definition of a feel-good story of the week. Congratulations to Christian Kane, Mary Kane, Gavin Kane, and all those involved with turning this dream into a reality.
