When Did Halloween Become a Gift-Giving Holiday?

For me, Halloween was always a day to dress up, trick-or-treat for candy, and then maybe go to a costume party.

I never received Hallmark cards and gifts for Halloween, nor did I GIVE cards and gifts to anyone else.

Now I walk into stores and feel like I should be shopping for skeleton mugs, blinged-out black-cat pocketbooks, and any of the other hundreds of gift ideas and cards that apparently I should be getting for my friends and family.

Can we just stick with the candy, people? I mean, I have Christmas shopping to do!
