New Jersey Ranks As Worst State in America To Retire in 2022

Believe it or not at one point in life we all end up thinking retirement. Maybe some of you reading this are at that point. A new survey out has ranked the best to worst states to retire in and well…we have bad news for folks here in the Garden State.

You may or may not agree with this survey, but Wallethub has ranked New Jersey as the WORST state to retire in, in all of America! Not middle of the pack or close to the bottom…the absolute bottom.

So let’s break down what Wallethub used to come up with their rankings for 2022. Wallethub had 47 categories they used. These categories fell under three main categories…AFFORDABILITY, QUALITY OF LIFE, and HEALTH CARE.

New Jersey finished 49th overall in AFFORDABILITY. Jersey finished 34th in QUALITY OF LIFE and for HEALTHCARE we finished 28th, which was our best ranking of the three categories. As you can see our worst showing was in the AFFORDABILITY category. Is it property taxes, insurance, rent, etc? Why is Jersey so low when it comes to the retirement rankings. Check out the survey and it’s various grading and see if you agree.

One of the best showings was in the category of “Lowest Property-Crime Rate” in which New Jersey finished as the 5th lowest, directly behind Maine. So that’s a positive from the survey.

Ive lived in New Jersey my whole life and probably will till the end. I like it here at the Jersey Shore and enjoy my quality of life here. Does winter get a bit tough, yes I admit the cold is not something I look forward to. To be honest I don’t think my property taxes are that crazy, but I don’t live in a town known for huge taxes…but I love my town it’s clean and quiet and it’s on the water and we have lots of trees, so I am content.
