It has been a rough time recently for allergy sufferers at the Jersey Shore. And it looks like it will be getting worse before it gets better.

While pollen levels are expected to be in the medium-high range through Wednesday. according to pollen.com, the range slips into "high" for Thursday and Friday. A "high" reading means most people who suffer from the pollen allergies of the season will be affected and the daytime may bring more severe symptoms, according to the site.

The minute you get the first sniffle, you start to wonder if it's allergies or a cold, and according to Rutgers University Professor Dr. Leonard Bielory, the director of the Asthma and Allergy Research Center there are subtle differences.

He told nj1015.com that many of the symptoms are similar, with the main differences being aches, pains and fever associated with the virus that causes a cold, and of course the duration of the symptoms. The cold lasts five days or so, while the allergy symptoms can hang on for weeks.
