It's that time of year, when women shed their...inhibitions...in celebration of Halloween. Year after year, women don such clever costumes as sexy cat, sexy witch, and sexy...nun. Now, color me guilty, this year I'm going as a sexy cop named Officer Naughty. A lot of people say this is because Halloween is the one night a year where women feel they have permission to dress as inappropriately as they want with no repercussions. They can't be called a 'slut' because, after all, it's Halloween, and it's just a costume.

As a young, single woman, I dress up because it's fun, and sure, it's the one night of the year where I go out and don't care if people think my dress is too short...though I try not too care too much what people think of me anyway. I bought this costume because I liked it and I'm too lazy to come up with a more clever one.
In any case, I wonder if the pressure to dress sexy for Halloween is dangerous for women, and even more so for teens. If a woman doesn't show her skin on Halloween, she's labeled as boring. But if she wears a 'naughty' costume, she's a floozy. So women have to choose between a rock and a hard place...and in a world where more and more emphasis is placed on superficial qualities, young girls especially might think it's more important to be sexy than creative.

No matter what a woman dresses as, it shouldn't be loaded with judgment about her character. Halloween is meant to be fun. So wear your costume, no matter what it is, with pride, and just have a good time. Confidence is the sexiest thing you can put on anyway.

Are sexy Halloween costumes a bad idea?
