Even though it's only around once every 17 years, we all know the unmistakable sound of the cicada. Will we be hearing it this year?

Well, the word from an expert in one report is that many of our neighbors will be dealing with the little (and sometimes not so little) miracles of nature, but the Garden State will be spared from the cicada song this year.

According to experts in an article at pix11.com, there are 14 "broods" of cicadas, and they all have that well known 17 year cycle, and they are due for just about the whole area in places like New York,Ohio,Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia, but apparently not in New Jersey. We're not on the list.

So, while all the other familiar sounds of the season will be upon us...you know, the beeping, the arguing over parking spots and of course the sea gulls and boardwalk games, the cicadas will be a distant sound.
