It doesn’t take much effort at all to be kind to people.

Even just flashing a smile, saying thank you, or holding the door for someone can change someone’s day.

I will never forget that one day when I was walking out of a store and I caught someone out of the corner of my eye coming up right behind me. I stopped and made sure I grabbed the door for this older lady, full bags in both of her hands.

She said, "thank you that is rare" and she continued to say that she doesn't really see people doing anything nice for others.

That really hit me.

That really made me stop and think and even change the way I treated people, even if they were complete strangers.

It is just so easy to spread good and kindness.

I am a strong believer in that now.

I try to treat everyone with respect and with kindness throughout my day. You just never know what people are going through.

Today is Random Act of Kindness Day.

Maybe this is the first time you’re hearing about today being this holiday.

Think back, did you do anything that was a random act of kindness?  News12 actually did a story on a group of Beach Haven first graders that placed seashells around Long Beach Island with inspirational messages on them.

It's never too early to teach our kids how to do nice things.  To be kind to others.

We took some time today to see their messages.

You can see these shells all around Long Beach Island, Ocean County, NJ inspiring people to be kind.
