The Most Unique New Jersey Hot Dog is Coming to the Jersey Shore This Summer
There’s just something about a New Jersey hot dog that is special. Maybe it’s the snap of the casing, although that does gross many out. It could be the creative toppings or the fact that we take our dogs as seriously as we do our pizza and bagels. Whether you're grabbing one from a food truck, a boardwalk stand, or a no-frills roadside joint, Jersey knows how to do hot dogs right.
Ask any local, and you’ll get passionate opinions about where to find the best ones. Some swear by Rutt’s Hut in Clifton, famous for their deep-fried “rippers.”
Others point to Hot Dog Johnny’s in Buttzville, a roadside staple since the '40s, with its river views and birch beer.

Then there’s Jimmy Buff’s in Kenilworth and West Orange, home of the Italian-style dog, loaded with peppers, onions, and potatoes, all tucked inside a round of pizza bread. Yeah, it’s basically a meal in itself.
New Jersey is also no stranger to wild combinations, from bacon-wrapped dogs to those doused in chili, mac and cheese, or even peanut butter. Hey, please don't knock it 'til you try it. There’s a little something for everyone.
And just when you thought you’d tried every version out there, something new is rolling into town this summer.

A fresh spot is making waves in Surf City on Long Beach Island. It’s called Surf City Dog House, and they’re switching things up in a pretty innovative way. Instead of the usual sliced bun, they’re using these custom buns that get toasted from the inside out. Imagine a whole bun speared on a warm metal spike that toasts the middle and makes room for your toppings before the dog even goes in. Genius, right?
APP reports that they’ll be slinging two signature creations: the Top Dog (simple and classic with mustard and onion relish) and the High Tide (a beach twist with pineapple relish, garlic sauce, and honey mustard).
You can also build your own, choosing from a beef-and-pork blend or even a vegetarian option. Toppings range from chili and cheese to spicy mustard and sweet relish. Basically, your summer dog game is about to level up the next time you're on LBI.
