White Elephant gift exchanges can be awesome...or terrible.

Depending on your price limit, and the people you are exchanging with, it can be one of the more stressful gifts to buy because...well what kind of decent gift can you really get someone you may or may not know that well for so little money?

Now, traditionally, white elephant gifts are supposed to be awful and/or gag gifts, but if your group is going with more legitimate gifts, it can be tough to come up with something.

Luckily I have a *few* ideas! (Emphasis on the few. Seriously, it's three ideas, and two are kind of the same.)

  • Wine (or some other type of booze.) - Seriously, would you expect anything less from a person who comes up with a Cocktail of the Week every Friday? Honestly though, wine is a great white elephant gift because you can get (decent) wine for as little as $5 and as much as your limit may be. Most people love wine, and if they don't...you can always pick the gift for yourself, no?
  • Scratch off lottery tickets. - It could just be because I love scratch off lottery tickets, especially when someone else is buying them for me...but seriously, it's something fun and easy that could possibly turn into something insanely generous! It's especially good if you tie these together with something like

  • Cookies in a Jar - Maybe it's just because this has so much Pinterest appeal, or because it's got more of a 'handmade' element, but it's another thing that could be as cheap as $5. You basically layer the dry ingredients for a cookie recipe in a mason jar...wrap the jar with some festive fabric (or a Santa napkin like I did) and add a tag with the rest of the recipe on it. If you have a higher price limit...you could pair it with...wine or scratch off lottery tickets.
  • Spoiler alert to my family: my white elephant gift is cookies in a jar and scratch offs, so uh...surprise! Merry Christmas!
