The National Weather Service has issues a Rip Tide Statement for coastal Ocean County for today.

Our forecast for today doesn't exactly make you want to go to the beach, and that's not a bad thing since the National Weather Service says there is a high rip current risk today for coastal Ocean County.

The risk is in effect through this evening, and the experts say the wave heights could be 5 to 8 feet, and "very strong rip currents will be life threatening to anyone who enters the surf."

We have been spending this entire summer trying to get the word out about the dangers of rip currents and have been trying to pass along as much helpful information as possible.

Some of the most important things to remember are to only swim where there are lifeguards on duty and to always be aware of that day's ocean conditions and riptide information.

Please stay aware of current ocean conditions at all times before entering the surf, and we'll continue to keep you up to date on weather alerts, and remember to get the latest New Jersey weather conditions with Dan Zarrow's weather blog.
