When it comes to rich tows in America, one Monmouth County town is getting closer to the top of the list.

The Richest Towns In America list was compiled by Bloomberg, and it concludes that the top rich town in the U.S.A. is Atherton, California for the third year in a row, but a Monmouth County town is making it's way closer to the top.

Rumson had an impressive leap on this year's list, moving up 19 places and sliding into the top 20 (#19). Overall, New Jersey did well, with 18 entries on the top 100 list, including Short Hills (#6) and Bernardsville (#64).

New Jersey's success on the list can be attributed to the amount of wealth in places like Bergen County, which is considered one of the six counties in the nation with the highest concentration of riches.

Other Garden State places that made this year's top 50 include Upper Saddle River (#32), Upper Montclair (#39) and North Caldwell (#47) with each of these three slightly down from last years ranks.

And by the way, the annual household income for Rumson that helped get them in the top 20 was $303,542 as compared to the $450,696 for Atherton. That's a lot of money.  But for some reason, I actually thought it would be higher in order to top the list.
