Rare Find: Giant Megalodon Tooth Discovered On Sea Isle City Beach
New Jersey Is Known For Having Crazy Things Wash Up On The Beach
We find crazy things wash up on the Jersey Shore all the time, especially after large storms. Like one time I found what I thought was an old pirate sword on the beach in Seaside. Turns out it was just an old piece of metal, but those few moments of mystery were pretty fun.

Other times, people make some historical discoveries on the shore, like the time someone found a message in a bottle that dated back to the 1800's, which was a really cool viral video a few years back.
Now, something was just picked up on the beach in Sea Isle City that is both amazing and terrifying at the same time.
A Megalodon Tooth Was Found Washed Up In Sea Isle City, NJ
According to CBS News, a family from Pittsburgh was visiting Sea Isle on vacation, and they found a 4.5-inch megalodon tooth that had washed up on the beach.
What Exactly Is A Megalodon?
Megalodons are prehistoric sharks that were massive, growing up to over 60 feet in length and weighing up to 50 tons, and they ate pretty much anything and everything in the ocean.
Finding Megalodon Teeth On The Beach Is Pretty Normal
What really surprised me is that scientists are saying that finding Megalodon teeth along the shore isn't too uncommon; what is uncommon is finding a tooth of this size.
What I think is really cool is that the family gets to keep the tooth, and it doesn't have to get donated to a museum. A Megalodon tooth isn't the only wild thing that's washed up on the shore in Jersey, by the way.
