Jenkinson’s Cancels 2020 4th Of July Fireworks

With many municipalities and businesses having to make the difficult decision about whether to hold open-to-the-public fireworks displays with the 4th of July 2020 just over a week away, one of the Jersey Shore's most popular destinations made the call today to not hold their annual Independence Day fireworks.

A number of Ocean County's biggest fireworks displays have been either postponed or canceled in the wake of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

As far back as May, a number of New Jersey towns made the decision to either pull their annual 4th of July fireworks from the calendar altogether or reschedule them for later in the summer.

Locally, officials in Beachwood, home to Ocean County's biggest public fireworks show with the Beachwood Fireworks on the Toms River, made the tough call earlier this month to postpone the show until Labor Day Weekend.

While the Lakewood BlueClaws are holding their Red, White & BlueClaws Fireworks Extravaganza on Friday, July 3rd, they're able to control admission and keep attendance levels in accordance to the state guidelines on gatherings.

And that's the tough part of fireworks displays that are open to the public, places like Beachwood and Jenkinson's don't have the ability to control attendance and cap crowd sizes.

So, today, Jenks made the tough decision to pull this year's 4th of July fireworks display.
