I have talked about this topic before: ADOPT DON'T SHOP!

But this time, the entire country is getting on board.

This weekend, there is a national event going on and it is called "Clear the Shelter" which helps to get hundreds, if not thousands, of shelter pets adopted. (It warms my heart that I may be tearing up as I write this)

The Monmouth County SPCA is just one of the MANY groups at the Jersey Shore that are participating.

They have announced that this Saturday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, there will be discounted adopt fees! (Plus there will be drinks and pastries provided at the Sea Girt Starbucks)

For dogs who have been at the MCSPCA for 30 days or more, you will receive half off of the adopt fees. (Depending on the dog's age, you could be saving as much as $225)

The deal with kittens is that you will adopt one and get one free! (Which would save you $150)

And for cats over 6 months, you will receive half off of the adoption fee. (You would be saving up to $50)

These fees include vaccination, sterilization, diagnostic testing, a microchip, a free vet consultation and free obedience classes for dogs.

Now being that 'Clear the Shelter' is a national event, there are other shelters at the Jersey Shore that are participating. You can head to ClearTheShelter.com to check and see which local shelters near you are hosting a 'Clear The Shelter' event.

There is actually a long list of shelters participating with just a few being: Toms River Animal Facility, Shore Animal Volunteer Enterprise Rescue Shelter, Northern Ocean County Animal Facility, Jersey Shore Animal Center, and the Associated Humane Society. There are MANY more participating locations at the Jersey Shore.

Just something to keep in mind: The deals being offered are different for each shelter. Check out their website or give them a call to get the details.

If you have been thinking about adopting, this is clearly the weekend! You will save some money on those adoption fees (which can be used to get more treats and toys) and you will be changing the world for one lucky animal.

Remember: ADOPT DON'T SHOP and I hope you find your true love this weekend.
