Lakewood Officer wounds aggressive pitbull while looking for suspect
While trying to locate a man wanted by Manchester Police for violating a final restraining order and stalking, a Lakewood Police Officer discharged his service weapon at an aggressive pitbull wounding it in the process, announced Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon around 5:00 p.m. as Lakewood Police were attempting to locate a man wanted for a violation of a Final Restraining Order and Stalking at a sober living facility adjacent to the All Saints Episcopal Church in Lakewood.
While trying to locate the man, a Lakewood Police Officer encountered an aggressive pit bull that ran towards the officer.
The officer discharged his weapon and wounded the dog.
The dog was transported by Lakewood EMS to a local veterinary hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The officer was not harmed.
An investigation into what happened on Wednesday as well as the search for the man wanted for stalking is an ongoing at this time.
