There are a few things I didn't know about Mischief Night, and one of them is that it's actually a New Jersey thing.

Being in and around New Jersey my whole life, I always knew about Mischief Night, and I thought it was a thing everywhere, but according to Only In Your State, it's actually something that's pretty exclusive to the Garden State.

There are apparently other names for it in some other states, like Gate Night or Devil's Night, but many states don't have a night for it at all.

It's not like Mischief Night started in New Jersey. Actually, the historians say it seems like it all began in the late 1700s in Great Britain.

The article goes on to talk about the route the night took to get to what it is today. We all know it as a night of pranks and jokes, and sometimes some egg and toilet paper-related shenanigans.

It's really pretty interesting to learn about the twists and turns, and name changes Mischief Night has gone through on its journey to apparently finding a home right here in New Jersey.

Mischief Night in New Jersey has often become a little less innocent, and some towns have enforced curfews that day to curtail incidents of vandalism.
