Ten years ago, the thought of a store being open on Thanksgiving was laughable. Then, Black Friday crept into Thanksgiving Thursday and stores being open on Turkey Day was commonplace. However, the trend seems to be shifting.

Many customers love being first to grab the best deal before Black Friday, but they are going to have to grab some leftovers and wait.

Finally, some retailers are listening to their employees.

A lot of stores have made it mandatory for staffers to work Thanksgiving. I've always felt that everyone deserves a day off to enjoy family, friends, and food. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because of its simplicity. Most keep it a low-key, relaxing day.

As of now, the stores that will not be open on Thanksgiving are:

  • Ace Hardware
  • Costco
  • Hobby Lobby
  • HomeGoods
  • Home Depot
  • Ikea
  • Lowe’s
  • Staples
  • Stein Mart
  • T.J. Maxx

Interestingly, according to a poll at BestBlackFriday.com, 70% of shoppers believe that stores shouldn't be open on Thanksgiving.

Amen!
