My Boys’ Apple Picking Experience
Back in their (much) younger years, both of my boys went apple picking on class trips. They weren't impressed, and no one could drag them back. Until now.
Last weekend my boys got to spend time with their uncles and cousins for a 'boys weekend'. Among the things they did: apple picking.
I tried to warn my brother and brother-in-law that my boys would not want to do this. Although they love to EAT apples, they couldn't see the point in having to PICK them off the trees, when we can just hit the produce section of our grocery store each week to get our Red Delicious apples.
Well, while my sister-in-law Karyn and I spent some 'girl time' together, the boys went apple picking at Eastmont Orchards with Uncle Mikey (pictured) and Uncle John. (My sister did tag along to take pictures like this one, so thanks Jenny!)
By the time I picked up my boys later that day, they had already eaten THREE apples apiece and had a bundle left to take home for the week. And they made me PROMISE that we'd go back for more!
I think it was a combination of being with their uncles (one of whom brought a pocket knife and sliced off a fresh slice right off the tree so they could sample why they would want a whole basket full of them) that did the trick.
Now my boys are HOOKED on fresh apples! They swear they taste infinitely better than 'the ones in the stores'.
