Just a heads up to those of you who plan to head out onto the Navesink River in Rumson this weekend....there has been shark sightings.

According to Rumson police, officials believe it is bull sharks specifically that have been spotted but police cannot 100% confirm on the species.

But there is good news: this is only a warning to make you aware of your surroundings.

Officials are saying it is still okay for you to go in, near or on The Navesink River....but like I said, just be aware.

“I wouldn't be afraid to be in the water right now,” says Marine Scientist Jessica Starts. “I would kind of find it a lucky occurrence. I get to see one that close if it was fishing or somewhere out there. Just take precautions, don't flail around like an injured animal when you're out there if you do happen to see something or someone says something. Take your time to get out. Just take precautions, but take it as a privilege you got to see something like that."

Hmmm....lucky? If you say so.

But like the professional said, if you do spot a shark SWIM SLOW so you do not get mistaken for a fish.

And here is some more good news: There has not been a fatal shark attack at the Jersey Shore since the 1920's so try not to get too worked up about this information.
