A national publication recently listed each state's most influential historical figures. And when it came to the Garden State, the choice was definitely a key historical figure, but the most significant in our history?

I love the person they chose, and happen to be a huge fan of this person, but I'm not sure he's the most significant figure in the long history of the Garden State. First, let's go over a few of the figures that were not named the most significant.

Thomas Edison. Umm, yea. How is the man who brought us light bulbs, the phonograph, the automatic telegraph, the carbon telephone transmitter, alkaline storage battery, and the motion picture not be the most influential guy in New Jersey's history?

Grover Cleveland. This New Jersey-born guy only went on to become the President of the United States...and then became the President of the United States a second time. It's hard to be more historically significant than that.

Albert Einstein. He lived in Princeton and he came up with a little thing like the theory of relativity, plus other earth-shattering info like evidence for the atomic theory, and we'll throw in that 1921 Nobel Peace Prize.

Buzz Aldrin. There is this little thing called the second guy to walk on the moon that keeps popping up on his resume. That turned out to be pretty significant in the history of the world, wouldn't you say?

So, if it wasn't these super-influential New Jersey people then who does Ranker say is the most significant historical figure in Garden State history? It's Old Blue Eyes.

Yep, that's right, Frank Sinatra is the choice for New Jersey. Don't get me wrong. I love, love, love Sinatra, and I'm so glad he was a Jersey guy, I'm just surprised he landed at the very top of this list. I'm not mad, just surprised.
