You can make an argument up to and including Labor Day that it's too early for pumpkin spice anything but after this weekend, all bets are off.

For those who cherish what has become known as "local summer" all over the Jersey Shore, there is a bit of a different conversation. Yes, the beaches, boardwalks, and restaurants are ours, but it's just fine to enjoy all of that with a hot cup of pumpkin spice latte.

There is no question, however, that the whole "pumpkin spice phenomenon" has gone way too far.

For instance, did you know that you can buy pumpkin spice treats for your dog? There is apparently no law against it, even though some think there should be.

There have even been sightings of pumpkin spice yogurt and pumpkin spice yogurt pretzels. Do you think even one of either of those has ever actually been purchased?

I guess I'm just bitter about our precious summer coming to an end, and maybe I'm taking it out on the innocent, unsuspecting pumpkin spice line of items. Maybe all the summer lovers can take a step back and embrace the inevitable.
