Today is more than just a day off from work or school. It is more than a department store sale. It is not just another Monday. Today we honor an icon, a vision, and our future.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. left a legacy that will not be forgotten. He spent 17 minutes declaring his dream to the world, and nearly 50 years later, his words have immense power.

My favorite line from the speech?

We cannot walk alone.
And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.

We cannot turn back.

We should continue to work together everyday to promote peace and equality between us all. It can be difficult when we disagree with each other's beliefs, but do your best to be tolerant of everyone and open to honest discussion.

I really believe that if people dialogued about their beliefs and actively listened to each other rather than talking AT one another, we'd be in a much better place.

And today? Take a moment to honor a man with a great message and a greater vision. Envision a future where we stop fighting each other and learn from each other instead. That's my dream.
