Return to Normalcy is Necessary But Awkward
I'm dying to get back to normal...but is it too soon?
I miss being able to talk about funny stuff without feeling guilty. I want to talk about pop culture news, music stories, and all the stuff we were interested in before Sandy came through and took over our lives.
I don't want to talk about downed trees, power outages, and devastation anymore.
Unfortunately, I know that's not really an option, as those things are still a very real concern and focus for so many people in our area.
Going 'back to normal' means forgetting about the people who don't have a normal anymore. Obviously, we can't do that. There are still so many people who need help, and who need simple things...like electricity...or a place to sleep.
For people who lived on the barrier islands, they may never feel normal again.
It is okay for all of us to laugh, and have fun, and enjoy our lives again, but it's important that we not forget the people less fortunate...the people who lost everything and need to start over.
It's a balancing act, I know I can't be the only one struggling with it.
Like everything else regarding Hurricane Sandy, we are all in this together.
