Should There Be a Bruce Springsteen Day Here in New Jersey?
So the question of should there be a "Bruce Springsteen Day" is in the news again. What are YOU thinking? Does this idea resonate with you or do you automatically say no!
It's interesting because I find Springsteen to be very polarizing these days. People love or hate when it comes to the "Boss" and it has nothing to do with his music, it's all about his politics. Do you think musicians are better off getting into their political views or do you think they should stick to the music? For some, it works for others it does not. How about Bruce? has his latest political statements made a difference for you?
Last week a state committee advanced a resolution to the legislature to declare "Springsteen Day" on his Birthday, September 23rd.
So how does this work in Trenton? If both houses of the state legislature passed the measure, then it heads to Governor Murphy's desk. The resolutions are ceremonial.
What would you suggest as ways to celebrate Springsteen Day? We asked listeners what they suggest.....
Deby: By not celebrating. It would waste a perfectly good day.
Pamela: Listening to his music in open-air venues with dancing and beverages and a surprise performance by Bruce himself..... or cover bands...
Lisa: I wouldn’t celebrate it at all
Bob: Why, what did he do for Jersey
Marilyn: Dancing in the dark!!
In conclusion: I love Springsteen's "music" and as a New Jersey native I applaud his "music" career and maybe honor him once a year as possibly our greatest musical resident? or as one listener suggested, give the day to Frank Sinatra?
