The Sopranos Are Back In New Jersey
People are starting to buzz about The Sopranos again…why? Because it’s really happening. After tons of COVID delays, we are going to get our prequel! I’ll fight anyone who doesn’t agree that this was the best show to ever be on TV. Actually, that was a little aggressive and I apologize. I should have just said that this show never disappointed me, not even the last episode. I get you David Chase, I do.
So you can imagine my excitement when I tell you that the prequel, The Many Saints of Newark is really getting done after all those delays. The star, Michael Gandolfini, the late James Gandolfini's son, shared just yesterday how he felt playing his own father. He said it was really hard to watch film of his Dad over and over day after day to nail the role. He said he became obsessed with watching his every move and he would wear earbuds and listen to Sopranos episodes while walking this the street just trying to capture the essence of who his dad was on the show. He was not always on board, in fact, he had to be convinced to do it by his manager. I'm so glad he is taking this leap of faith because there really is no one better for the role. He looks just like his dad; in fact it is a bit eerie. I’m sure that must have been heart wrenching to play the man we loved too much and lost too soon.
Here's some local trivia for my hardcores: what was the name of the place Tony was going to buy Carmela at the Jersey Shore? Whitecaps of course, located at 420 Ocean Ave in Sea Bright. Even the Sopranos knew where to go to get away from it all!
You'll only have to wait a bit longer…It’s set to release on September 24, 2021 in cinemas and on HBO Max. Anyone else smell a 94.3 The Point viewing party?!?! I'll bring the gabagool.
