Marcus Samuels, 32, previously plead guilty in the death of Willie Love, 27, of Beachwood, that occurred in South Toms River on June 8, 2015.

His sentence will be subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act, meaning that Samuels will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence before he may be considered for parole eligibility.

Billhimer said that Samuels was also sentenced to ten years as a result of a previously entered guilty plea to Conspiracy to Commit Witness Tampering and five years in connection with an unrelated charge of Aggravated Assault relative to an incident that occurred in Seaside Heights on May 3, 2015.

Samuels pled guilty to all these charges in June and his sentences will run concurrently.

The shooting death of Willie Love took place on June 8, 2015.

OCPO Major Crime Unit Detectives and South Toms River Police Officers responded to Community Medical Center in Toms River that day for a report of a man having suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

Willie Love later succumbed to his injuries at Community Medical Center.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and South Toms River Police learned through their investigation that Samuels was driving a 2004 Dodge Nitro and pulled alongside a vehicle being operated by Love which contained three passengers.

"Samuels then recklessly fired a handgun into Mr. Love’s vehicle, striking Mr. Love, which led to his death," Billhimer said.

He later turned himself into law enforcement alongside his attorney on June 12, 2015,and has been in the Ocean County Jail since that time.

But, that's not the only crime he committed, he did more behind bars.

"While Samuels was detained in the Ocean County Jail pending trial on these charges, he conspired with other inmates to influence a witness into retracting or changing a statement previously provided to law enforcement in connection with the investigation."

Prosecutor Billhimer said that Chief Narcotics Assistant Prosecutor William Porter and Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Burke handled the case on behalf of the State.
