Food and Wine Magazine recently put out a list of the 50 best bagel shops in the country. Only one New Jersey bagel shop made the list…Teaneck Road Hot Bagels. I’ve been there..they've got great Kosher bagels with an amazing chew but they are just too small...which I guess is a compliment because I always want more. In any event, the fact that NJ and NY don’t take every single spot on the list is suspect. Maybe it’s just because I grew up here, but the bagels in Jersey are the best and here's why:

OK, we already know that TONS of famous people come out of Jersey but did you know the single most important invention on earth came from Jersey? Literally, I don’t know how anyone ever lived without it! Keep these nuggets of info in you back pocket the next time you have to defend or brag about Jersey!

I know the old adage you get what you pay for is usually true which helps me wrap my mind around why New Jersey is so expensive. I mean, I’ll defend Jersey to anyone. It has the shore, mountains, close proximity to the greatest city in the world. All of that said, our tax bills are monsters (the kind with big teeth). I shake my head every time I hit a pothole because for what we pay the streets should not only be smooth, they should be paved in gold. We have the highest property taxes in the country they went up AGAIN.

Look at you smarty-pants. New Jersey is filled with some of the smartest people on the planet! All that smarts has paid off because you make more money too. The thing is, we start our kids off right with our education system. New Jersey has been ranked number one in education for many years running. Fast forward to adulthood and you are still shining bright!
