Look at you smarty-pants. New Jersey is filled with some of the smartest people on the planet!  All that smarts has paid off because you make more money too.  The thing is, we start our kids off right with our education system. New Jersey has been ranked number one in education for many years running.  Fast forward to adulthood and you are still shining bright!  New Jersey has made several lists for having the smartest residents overall. Apparently, the brightest of the bright gravitate to the Northeast specifically.  Here is how it plays out:

Zippia.com did some research and it turns out that the top ten states for intelligence are in the Northeast with exception on Hawaii (just sayin' if you choose to live in that paradise you really have us all beat). Here are the smartest states with Vermont topping the list:
Vermont
Connecticut
Massachusetts
New Hampshire
Virginia
New Jersey
Maryland
Rhode Island
Maine
Hawaii

To derive at this conclusion they used the Census to see what percentage of adults over 25 have a bachelor’s degree or higher and what percentage of 18-25 year olds have less than a high school education. Yes, I know someone out there is saying that formal education is not necessarily a marker for intelligence. After all, I graduated from Penn State any my spell check has been going off on me for this entire post. Of course getting a college degree is not the only measure of how smart someone is…in fact John D Rockefeller, Henry Ford and Richard Branson never went to college and they did OK.
In any event, I’ll take a Jersey compliment whenever we can get one and as far as I’m concerned you are one smart cookie.
