New Jersey Monthly compiled this year's list based on home values, property taxes, crime rate, school performance and a "lifestyle factor" including things like number of nearby hospitals and restaurants and average commute time, among other criteria. (Read all about their methodology HERE.)

The top spot in the state went to Florham Park, but Monmouth and Ocean Counties are both well represented in the Top 100, with 13 and four towns, respectively. (Towns with populations under 1500 were excluded, which may explain some of that!) Even better, two towns are in the top 5!

The Top 10:

  1. Florham Park, Morris Cty.
  2. Harding Twp., Morris Cty.
  3. Lavallette, Ocean Cty.
  4. Pequannock Twp., Morris Cty.
  5. Avon-by-the-Sea, Monmouth Cty.
  6. Wyckoff, Bergen Cty.
  7. Roseland, Essex Cty.
  8. Madison, Morris Cty.
  9. Mendham Twp. Morris Cty.
  10. Saddle River, Bergen Cty.

As for the worst towns in the state, luckily we mostly stayed out of the bottom 100 (with the exception of Keansburg, which came in at #484 out of 510, Eagleswood at #450, and Lakewood at #447. Womp womp.)
