Update – Wind Gusts And Power Outage Info For Jersey Shore This Morning
It was a another extreme weather day at the Jersey Shore yesterday as a line of thunderstorms pounded the Jersey Shore.
Some areas, of course, were hit harder than others. But the wind gusts in some towns were jaw dropping. The storm was declared a "derecho", which is a long-track severe wind event, according to our Chief Meteorologist Dan Zarrow.
As we wake up this morning after a destructive day, here's some of the info about yesterdays storm as well as power outage info...
Top wind speeds reported in the state according to the National Weather Center...
89 mph...Beach Haven
70 mph...Harvey Cedars
There were many reports of damage around our area due to the storm. Residents reported downed branches, roof damage and more associated with the storms that struck the area.
And the storm caused power outages as well, and JCP&L reports that only 359 customers are without power in Monmouth County, but in Ocean County there are reports of over 9000 without power this morning.
And although we will not see anything like yesterday, Dan Zarrow is reporting the possibility of some storms again tonight with some gusty winds. Just what we need. You can stay up to date on the very latest weather info with Dan Zarrow's weather blog.
The good news is things will start to calm down a little each day heading into the weekend, and we're looking at a beautiful Sunday, and we'll take it.
