Sunday is National Cheeseburger Day (okay, sure) so...why not celebrate with the best ooey gooey cheeseburger we can find here at the Jersey Shore?

For me, the perfect cheeseburger starts with good beef and is perfect when topped with cheddar and good, crispy bacon and caramelized onions...or maybe just a fried egg...yum. (Then of course there's something amazing about a blackened burger with bleu cheese on it...)

I must say, there are some places serving up AMAZING burgers in Monmouth and Ocean Counties...but for the best? I don't know that I could choose just one...but there are certainly several contenders (in no particular order):

  • Barnacle Bill's - Rumson

This is by no means a fancy place, but it's definitely high on the list when you want a big, juicy burger.

  • The Ark - Pt. Pleasant Beach

They have this one burger with Port Wine Cheddar that is amazinggggg. Again, not a fancy place, but man if you won't be thinking about that burger for days after!

  • Benny Burger - Belmar

Sometimes there's no better hangover cure than a greasy, salty, delicious burger -- I may or may not be speaking from experience. Go to Benny Burger, and order the Belmartian. It's topped with fried pork roll, fried onions, and melty cheese...and it will make you very very happy.

  • Cross & Orange - Asbury Park

They use a 60/40 blend to make their burger: it's 60% beef, 40% bacon. Just stop right there. It's seriously the juiciest burger you'll ever have in your life...and then they top it with caramelized onions and melty American cheese. Perfect!

  • B2 Bistro - Red Bank

B2's dry aged burger doesn't automatically come with cheese, because it's really great as is, but...sometimes you just need a little melty love to take things to the next level. It's a meaty, delicious burger at its best.

  • Jersey Shore BBQ - Belmar

I know, you wouldn't think about finding a great burger at a BBQ place. Trust me on this one. The Mondo Burger takes a great burger and tops it with JSBBQ's amazing pulled pork, fries, coleslaw, and of course, cheese. You'll be a sloppy mess when you're finished, but it's totally worth it!

  • Bobby's Burger Palace - Eatontown/Freehold

I know I'm gonna catch some flak for this one, but I stand by it. Bobby Flay's chain of burger restaurants certainly don't have the biggest burgers -- in fact, the actual burger patty could use a little...beefing up. (Ha.) However, his recipes include combos of toppings that are absolutely delicious. Brunch Burger, Dallas Burger, Bobby Bleu...seriously all amazing when you are craving a good burger!
