You knew it was going to happen, right?. You blink and summer 2014 is already winding down.

I know...I know. We do have a month left, but it's hard to keep the summer momentum going when you walk into your local supermarket and Halloween candy and plastic pumpkins stand between you and the watermelon.

So, how did it happen? How does winter take so long and summer goes so fast? I'm sure a psychiatrist could explain it better, but I have some theories. First of all, spring lasts about three days lately. It seems the winter cold is holding on longer, and before you can say "put the ice scraper away", it's 87 and humid. To me, no true spring really makes summer fly by.

I also think we here at the Jersey Shore put a lot of pressure on ourselves to try to do everything that our area offers during the summer season. Between all the great shore restaurants, beautiful beaches, boardwalks, barbeques with friends, barbeques with family, play dates, camp, pools, ball games and about 300 other things we try to do, no wonder we look up and it's September.

At least the upcoming "local" summer gives us a chance to complete our summer to-do list, and also gives us a chance to get used to the fact that summer season 2014 is about to wrap up.
