The Grenville Hotel and Restaurant is one of the most recognizable, and one of the oldest historic restaurants in the area.

As a matter of fact, the Grenville was featured in 16 of the Oldest Historic Restaurants in our area at the website Only In Your State. And just about everyone knows where that beautiful pink building is.

And in case you don't, it's right on Route 35 in beautiful Bay Head. Now here are three things you might not know about the history of The Grenville Hotel and Restaurant...

(1) The land it is on was purchased for an unbelievable $400 way back in 1886. We're guessing it's probably worth just a little more than that these days.

(2) The Grenville Hotel and Restaurant was the first business of it's kind in the area to have an elevator.

(3) A couple of years ago, the Grenville was named among the most haunted hotels in New Jersey.

Diane and I have stayed at the Grenville many times, and we really have loved our stays, and we never have encountered any paranormal activity ourselves.

As a matter of fact, we loved it so much, we chose to have our wedding reception there, and if I may say so myself, it was an amazing, beautiful day. That was back in the fall of 2007.

And now, we are all appreciating our favorite local restaurants a little more, and if you love the Grenville, the good news is,like so many Jersey Shore restaurants which offer it, outdoor dining is now available.

Do your best to support local businesses whenever you can, and enjoy!
