It's been nearly three decades since the remains of Todd Sonnenfeld (born October 13, 1965) were found in a wooded area off Route 530 in Berkeley Township, but the moments leading up to his sudden death remain a mystery to this day.

Todd J. Sonnenfeld, 5'7, 150-lbs from Beachwood, was last seen leaving his keys and wallet at the Spirits Sports Bar (now Miracle Sports Pub) on Route 37 in Toms River around midnight on June 1, 1990 possibly on foot, according to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

He was wearing old jeans, sneakers and a light blue long sleeve t-shirt that read "Daytona Speedway" at the time and had a Yosemite Sam tattoo on his left arm.

What happened after that to the 1984 Toms River High School South graduate is still unknown between June 1, 1990 and January 28, 1991 when his skeletal remains were discovered by a man walking his dogs near some power lines in the wooded area of Route 530 in Berkeley Township.

Todd's family reported him missing on June 3, 1990 including his parents, Alfred and Virginia with whom he lived.

He has a sister Georgia and two brothers, Carl and Alfred Jr.

When the body was found and later identified investigators led by then Ocean County Prosecutor Jim Holzapfel (now Senator) suspected foul play was involved, according to the Asbury Park Press article at the time.

OCPO Spokesman Al Della Fave told WOBM News that he hopes someone who knows something and was afraid to say anything back then for one reason or another might hopefully come forward and clear their conscious.

He said Todd wasn't the kind of guy who had enemies and was very well liked.

Detectives are still looking for clues and are scratching their heads for answers, the conversation with WOBM continued today.

The family is looking for closure on the loss of their loved one, if you know anything however small it may seem, call the OCPO and let investigators know so they can close this cold case and the family can sleep easier knowing what happened.

Will you help?

Anyone with information on what happened is asked to call the Ocean County Prosecutor's office Major Crimes Unit at 732-929-2027 extension 3468.
