Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank Announces Expansion
The legendary Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank just made a huge announcement!
No, it's not a concert announcement, but even better: they're expanding!
Count Basie officials announced plans today for a $20 million expansion that will turn that entire section of Monmouth St. into a creative campus dedicated to performing arts.
According to their news release, plans include a new glass-walled lobby, outdoor arts plaza, stage and lighting upgrades, upgrades to the backstage area, a new multi-use venue referred to as a "second space" for up-and-coming artists, and new classrooms and offices for the Basie's Performing Arts Academy, along with other improvements.
The expansion will truly make the Count Basie Theatre an arts destination in New Jersey.
The Basie is one of my favorite places to catch a show, especially since it's a smaller venue which means you'll never have a bad seat. They always bring in great acts, and it's awesome to know that they are devoted to bringing the arts to people in our area, and contributing something so positive to the community.
Fundraising efforts are now underway, and the project itself will take several years to complete.
