A study was done, and the results were reported on the website Escoffier. The results will be a surprise to most Garden State residents.
Many factors were woven into the results, including average added sugar intake, children's consumption of sugary snacks, and sugar-sweetened beverage consumption.
With those categories, you would think New Jersey would be near the top of the sugar consumption list.
Sugary Categories Are Not A Good Sign For The Garden State
After all, the lines at the coffee shops wind around the block, our kids love candy, and we add sugar to a lot of our food, not to mention the number of amazing bakeries that call New Jersey home.

Despite all that, New Jersey ranks surprisingly low in sugar consumption, coming in 40th among all states.
The Garden State's strongest category in the study was Estimated Added Dietary Sugars Intake, meaning we're not adding sugar to our food nearly as much as other states.
The Top Sugar-Consuming States In America
Although New Jersey ranked 40th in sugar consumption nationwide, the top states saw significantly higher sugar intake.

No state consumes more sugar than Kentucky, but Mississippi and South Dakota gave Kentucky a run for its money.
